Seeing my new shubbery on the property reminded me of a story.
The Christmas Bush.
The first year we were married we decided to cut down our own Christmas Tree. We went to a tree farm closer towards Beaver, PA. Seeing that we had such great success with tree cutting the first year, we decided it would be our first holiday tradition as a married couple.
Fast forward to year two. We were trying to hit up a place a little closer to us, on our way home from the Greek's house. I am not going to name this place because I don't want them to get a bad reputation from this story.
Anywho. This tree farm really seemed to be organized, but it was so nice out on the day that we went, it was extremely crowded. We searched for hours, literally, to find the perfect Christmas Tree for our Apartment. We wanted it to be a good shape and height for the limitations the apartment put on us. That being said, we found the most adorable, perfectly tree-shaped pine we could. We took the saw to it and drug it to the barn where the staff was busy bailing up all of the trees.
A staff member came around to put a tag on our tree, and give us the corresponding tag to take into the office to pay. The efficient part of me thought this was a great time-saving idea. We went into the office to pay for our perfect tree, and the balers would get it prepped to load into the truck.
After this you get into your vehicle with your ticket and drive around to the balers. Once you hand them your ticket, they get the matching ticketed tree and load it into your car for you.
HOW NICE OF THEM, RIGHT??
Most people would leave their trees to fall outside, but seeing as we have an apartment, we figured it was best to carry it up while bailed. We put the tree in it's stand and cut the rope.
To our surprise, we had a GINORMOUS tree, that wouldn't even fit in the picture.
I know, silly me decorated it before C got home. Only to confirm that it was entirely too large.
C got that crazy look in his eyes and went to the garage. The next thing I know:
C is sawing the tree in half in the middle of the living room.
This seemed like a good idea at the time, until we realized that trees aren't necessarily proportionate after being cut in half.
Enter: the Christmas Bush
Ya, I wasn't kidding. It was pretty sad looking |
We excepted our pathetic tree fate, and got to decorating anyways.
We posed for a picture that was put on a Christmas card The before, during and after all made the card that year. In the words of Clark Griswold: "A little full, a lot of sap" |
