Puppy Chow

I was trying to think of a yummy, healthy snack to take with us this weekend to feed the troops. When I recalled one of the best peanut-buttery, chocolaty, crunchy snacks of all time.

I don't know about you, but I spent many a youth group van rides eating the infamous "Puppy Chow". While you can find this recipe on the back of any chex cereal box, I received it from Mrs. Cav.

I gathered up my ingredients. While I don't have the pricing in front of me, I can assure you that buying your ingredients at Aldis will save you SO MUCH MONEY. Just the cereal alone is a few dollars cheaper.

You don't have to be snobby with your brand of peanut butter. Once it's melted with everything else, you cannot tell the difference. I consider myself to be a JIF girl, and I would tell you if I thought it made a difference.

Next, the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter get microwaved until they reach a consistency that will allow you to coat the cereal.

Once it looks delish, pour it onto the cereal and mix it up.

I use a massive spoon so that I'm able to just fold the choc-pb mixture in with the cereal.

There really is no other way to successfully complete the final step. Scoop the cereal into the bag, and pour in your powdered sugar. Then SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE!

Then you have your final product:
Eat up!

There are many variations of this on pinterest now. Even a healthy version, which I have yet to try for fear that it will ruin the flavor.

YUM! Perhaps I'll get to some other variations eventually.

  2.
  3. In large bowl, place cereal; pour chocolate mixture over the cereal, stirring until evenly coated.
  4.
  5. Pour into 2-gallon zip lock bag and add the powdered sugar; seal the bag and SHAKE IT UP
  6.
  7. EAT!
