Throwback Tuesday

I haven't always hated dragonflies. In fact, I never thought twice about them until that one, dreadful summer day.

It was hot outside and I was taking the Tempo to my job at Chick-fil-A. The car didn't have air conditioning because it was too busy being awesome in every other way. That being said, I left the windows open for a little ventilation.

I was well on my way, when I spotted the BIGGEST DRAGONFLY TO EVER HIT THE PLANET!

I am not exaggerating at all, I think it was at least 8 inches long. Don't even get me started on wing-span.  I could practically see it's eyes staring at me from my dashboard.

I had to think fast.

Option 1: It decides to fly around and hits me in the face
Option 2: It tries to make a break for the window and hits me in the face
Option 3: I stare at it to ensure it doesn't move, thus making me wreck and die

I was approaching a main road, and could hardly concentrate to begin with. I made a judgment call to pull into the gas station over the hill. The dragon fly was still perched on the dash, and didn't appear to want to leave. I stood there for about 30 seconds to see if it would voluntarily fly out of the window. It became clear I would have to take matters into my own hands.

Obviously, I found the largest man in the parking lot I could find. I told him that there was a persistent dragonfly in my car and I absolutely cannot drive with it there.

He laughed, but quickly knew what I needed help with. He walked to the Tempo and stared at the dash and said, "DANG GIRLLLL!! THAT'S A BIG BUGGG!".

I know, right. He was going to help me force the bug out of the car, but only after he showed his wife this mutant dragonfly. After some stares and gasping, my new friend swatted the bug out of the window.

I drove the rest of the way to CFA in fear and sweat. Mostly sweat. I couldn't risk having the windows down again, it was too soon.

I can now drive with the windows down, but it's very VERY rare for me to leave the car parked with the windows down. Too much time for a bug to enter. After seeing all the bugs at the property, I keep my windows up.

The End.
