The Garden

This past weekend I decided to try out gardening. The Greek lent me the space he used to use for a garden to use. I would love to have a garden on my property, but we don't live there and we have a lot of critters running around that would like to eat my surplus of veggies.

The problem at hand was: this space hasn't been used for a garden in quite a few years...and was overgrown with weeds. Initially, I thought that it wasn't that big of a space and I could turn it all by hand. Apparently, that would have taken an eternity!

Lucky for me, I have some friends that garden :)  Amy and Donovan graciously lent me their rototiller for the weekend. It worked so well and so fast. I think if I would have ended up hand-turning the soil, I would still be there.

We brought along Trapper Ray, as he has been gardening for a few years now. He wanted to test out the tiller ASAP. Seriously, he did it in the dark. I held the flashlight, and he wore a light on his head too!

The right side is still covered in weeds, and the left has been tilled.

Not too shabby, eh?? We gave it one more go the next morning. Then we were ready to plant.

Mr. Sleeveless, RobSr. and Featherweight all had seeds started early. They graciously gave me the plants they weren't intending to use.

I bought the lettuce flats from the local farmer's market, Taylor's.

Bean Bush

I also decided to bury some potatoes in the left over space to see what happens.

Crop List:
Green Beans
Tomatoes
Green Peppers
Cucumbers
Lettuce
Zucchini
Potatoes

Next week I hope to put some Onions in, just for fun.

In other news:

We got majority of the wall studs in place in the Porchouse:

Some of the roof shingles are on:

RobSr. scored a freebie screen door:

And the remnants of cut down tree stumps were moved to the "big fire" pile. That means I can efficiently cut the grass again :)

The grass that I planted is coming in wonderfully in most places. In fact, I even had to mow portions of it. Trapper Ray cut the majority of the lawn for me this weekend. No worries, I plan to bake him mass quantities of Zucchini Bread for his hard work.

We also had some visitors come to look at the place on Saturday. C's Grandparents and Aunt and Cousin came to scope out the scenery with J.S. We had good weather for a quick stroll through the woods and a tour of the Greek's place.

This weekend C has drill, but another out-of-towner will be gracing me with her presence. Weather permitting, I'll be bringing Tammy to the property on Friday at some point.

Saturday Evening I'll be having Thanksgiving in June with my friends. Turkey provided by: Mr. Beers and his hunting skills. Ever since Trapper Ray let us partake of his delicious Turkey, I've been craving some more.
