Greetings all! I just got back from a wonderful, relaxing vacation at Disney's Vero Beach Resort. I tagged along with my aunt, uncle and cousins. With the work at the property finally wrapping up, I was in need of a vacation. I am sooo happy they invited me, we had a great time.
One of the coolest things about this resort is that they are home to many sea turtles. The day after we arrived, they were doing a Tour de Turtle release! Basically, the turtles come to the shore to lay their eggs, and then they are put into a box (just for the night). A tracker is attached to their shell, which will eventually just fall off en route. Using the site linked above, you are able to see just how far the turtles have made it. The turtles that we saw being released are named Carrie and Claire. Carrie is in 2nd place! She's trucking right along. These turtles weigh in close to 300 lbs. Hard to believe they start out so tiny.
We had to wake up early, but it was totally worth it.
Here are some random beach pictures:
This was the view from our room!
Sarah took this awesome panoramic photo!
I'm not sure if you can see the jet skis out there...but let it be said, we rented them. And Sarah has a need for speed! It makes for a nice ride.
Below are some pictures of the resort and the pool. I'm sure you cannot tell, but the pool is shaped like Mickey Mouse :)
They also have a water slide. Jono is the water slide race champion. True story, he won a trophy, or three.
And here is, boogie-boarding his heart out:
This is a great place to vacation with children, they keep them busy all day long by playing water games, and playing music at the poolside parties. They have games and activities in the morning and evenings. Not to mention, if it rains, they use the hotel and keep them busy in the lobby. I would highly recommend. As an adult without children, I didn't find it annoying at all. I think it gives parents the much needed time to relax on their vacations as well.
Not to mention, they make you feel right at home:
He looks ill, but he is really just getting some R&R on the reject bed.
One night, there was a lot of commotion going around the resort. As it turns out, 2 turtle nests had hatched, and they were making their way to the ocean. It's hard to believe that the larger turtles pictured above, used to be as small as these.
If you look closely, they are all piling out of that hole. I believe there were about 150 of them.
Making their way to the ocean...
The last one! I sure hope he made it on his journey.
This was a really cool thing to see. Due to the vast quantity of turtle nests on the beach, there are no lights and the resort asks their guests to close the blinds in their rooms.
I don't have all of the photos, but here are some randoms that I was sure to get of me and the wonderful bunch that took me with them!

C is away on a two week training, and this took up one week of my being alone. One more week to go :)
Don't forget to peek and check out where Carrie and Claire are on their adventure.
